Little Haiti Cultural Complex

It may seem like an unlikely marriage — Shakespeare and hip hop, tango, spoken word and graffiti arts, but the cast of R&J [romeoandjuliet] A Danced Drama is bringing to the stage divergent art forms to re-tell a timeless classic, Romeo and Juliet.
The Fort Lauderdale-based Grace Arts Center bills its version of the Shakespearean masterpiece as a highly interactive, avant garde theater experience.

What if Florida was the backdrop for Romeo & Juliet and The Tempest-- Two Shakespearean classics—where lost kingdoms, dangerous romance and real mystery abound? Imagine no more! This American odyssey comes alive through an original script adapted by Florida playwrights with a diverse cast of talented local actors and dancers. Audiences will be treated to folkloric choreography and rarely heard traditional music by Afro-Cuban artists introduced through breathtaking images from acclaimed Iranian born Swede and South Florida resident Painter, Karl Momen. Momen has painted and published a series of works inspired by William Shakespeare and the orchestral masterpieces of Richard Wagner.

Head to Miami for a Shakespearean experience like no other at the beautiful Little Haiti Cultural Center (with plenty of nearby free and secure parking). Enjoy Act I and II, the full performance in two acts, with guest appearance by Christie Sciturro, company dancer for the Miami City Ballet (MCB), to choreography by her husband and past principal ballet dancer for MCB and Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami, Isanusi Garcia Rodriguez. A special live mural will be created as the music and drama unfold on stage by Painter, Ruben Ubiera.

This is Shakespeare South Florida style! Fast paced drama from The Bard with Afro Cuban Dance, Music and Visual Art. Each performance will be different! Get your tickets now for either the Fort Lauderdale engagement with Karl Momen or the full production in Miami!
